When you’re running out of steam…

DISCOVERING DESTINY.
Overcoming Darkness.
How are you overcoming the struggle to keep marching forward? Let’s journey together!
To more than a few of us, the Labor Day holiday can’t come soon enough. More than a few of us are all too familiar with the feeling that—instead of running our own lives—our lives are running us. A never-ending cycle of demands we can never quite stay on top of, leaving us out of breath and out of solutions. As an English teacher, business owner’s wife, mother of teenagers, and aspiring writer, I have often felt in the epicenter of that cycle. Over the last few weeks, I have been pulled by the beginning-of-school laundry list, a foot injury that won’t heal, the stomach bug, and two different infections. But whether life’s pressures keep us on the front lines, or relegate us to the sidelines, it is important to understand where our true source of direction, guidance, and ultimate victory will come from. And the best example of this comes from the chief general of front-line battles whose doom was plotted by the enemy since the creation of man. The seed of Eve prophesied to crush that same enemy’s head in Genesis 3:15. A man in body but one with his father in spirit. Who pledged his life to bringing victory to both the kingdoms of earth and heaven. Whose victory was made secure by his unshakable obedience and strength of spirit in the face of overwhelming odds. And because of his faithfulness to our one true source of power, no plot of the enemy could thwart him, no physical chain could hold him, not even death itself. And if we can remember to hold on to just a small portion of that faith—just a mustard seed’s worth—we, too, can win any battle that finds us and surmount any obstacle that comes our way. Because, although we long to be in the paradise we were created for, we face a jealous enemy who wants us to share in the curse of his defeat and rebellion. But if we keep fighting the good fight and trusting in the same God who authored our salvation and raised his son to the throne of heaven, we, too, will reap the victory our souls have hungered for. So, this weekend, or whenever the time is right, I hope the Lord will give you a restful reprieve. Because even our divine Savior was fiercely protective of his moments of rest whenever he needed them, understanding the value of storing up much-needed strength for the coming battle. And when you have rested, I pray that God will open doors of opportunity for you to serve him by bringing his children back to his kingdom. Because whenever Jesus had the chance, he actively sought out the lost and wounded sheep from all the places they had been scattered. And whenever the enemy tries to thwart your beautiful gifting and ministry, I pray that your faith can withstand any temptation to despair so that you, too, can reflect the image of our chain-breaking, victory-claiming priest and king who will one day judge the angels. For we have been promised seats of authority in heaven when we trust in God through our battles on earth. |
