When the world is not enough

Overcoming Darkness.

How are you overcoming the struggle to manage holiday pressures? Let’s journey together!

It’s the Christmas season again. Time for tinsel and tales of Tiny Tim. Family and festivities. Giving.
But as much as we’d like to be as generous as we’re expected, sometimes it can all feel overwhelming, excessive, and a bit frustrating.
So how can we remember the true reason for this season when the world pulls our focus onto everything else?
Things that too often sap our spirits and shrink our hearts a few sizes too small.
But the reason that the world is so good at draining us, the reason it is never enough, is what Christmas is all about.
The single moment when time and history opened the door to something bigger and better than this sin-cursed world had ever birthed.

God’s greatest gift, come to right every wrong and wipe every tear from our eyes.

Who loved us enough to walk with us, talk with us, heal us, and save us, even in the agony of death.

A gift that breaks every chain and builds every future. The gift of hope, of peace, of life.
The gift of Christ.
And as Christians, the best way to celebrate and share the gift of Christ with others is to BE the gift of Christ for others.
Christ didn’t need the latest iPhone to win our souls. He didn’t need a crowd-pleasing recipe, a schedule of special events, or a single decoration.
And as nice as those things are, those who need you most don’t need them most, either.
What they need most from you are the same things we need most from Christ. Compassion, mercy, healing, and forgiveness. A love that never fails.
And as bearers of his image, as owners of eternal souls birthed in the same goodness and light, the gift of a Christ-filled heart is the very best gift we have to offer this season.
So, before you throw yourself into a cycle of never-ending demands that rarely end on the right note, I would like to encourage each of you to remember the much more important gift of love and grace that you can offer this broken, hurting, and misguided world.
A world that needs the things of God so much more than the things of man. A world that needs Christ. A world that needs the very real and very powerful presence of Christ within you.
