STEERING YOUR COURSE

In stormy seas…

DISCOVERING DESTINY.

Overcoming Darkness.

How are you overcoming the darkness of stormy seas? Let’s journey together!

Sometimes it’s just not smooth sailing.

And for many of us, it rarely is.

So how do we know what to do when we hit rough waters? Where to point our sails when they’re already battered and torn?

For many of us, it’s a matter of simply not knowing how to gauge which direction is the right one. And even more terrifying: the wrong one.

What if we make a mistake? What if we fail? What if we wind up betrayed and hurt? Fears and the accumulation of past scars drown out logic and reason. Too often, we find ourselves responding to emotional triggers that color our judgment, blinding us to the simple facts.

Other times, it’s a matter of pride. Do they really think I’m not good enough? Do they even see one-tenth of what I’m bringing to the table?

But in the end, it all comes down to the same problem. The affliction we all suffer from. The limitations of a mortal lens which can’t perceive the depth and greatness of God’s plans for our lives any more than we can understand them.

And folks, I’m here to tell you that I’ve wasted a lot of time on things that weren’t right for me and were never meant to be. I’ve chased after the wrong people and the wrong dreams.

What’s worse, I’ve often failed to appreciate the right people and the rich blessings God had already bestowed upon me. People who were already in my corner. Those who formed the rock of the foundation I was standing upon, choosing instead to mourn shadows that never once intended to be within my grasp.

I’ve expected forgiveness without being willing to extend it to others. I’ve forgotten too often that we’re all in this together.

And at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about. Even when we’re lost and lonely. Even when the world is more cruel than kind.

Because we were all created for goodness, not the evil we have all endured to one extent or another. And every one of us has goodness in us. Even the ones who have hurt us and wronged us. Even the ones who have showed us their back rather than open arms.

But despite it all, God promises us unlimited access to his perfect love and goodness. Access He will never deny us as long as we draw breath.

And if we can only remember to turn back to that as often as we can, even when we’ve messed up, even when we don’t feel worthy, I can promise you that eventually you will wind up in the safe harbor we are all destined for.

The hard truth of our sin-cursed lives is that smooth sailing is as far beyond our reach as Eden. But that doesn’t mean the destination won’t outweigh the difficulties of the journey.

And if you can remember that there’s never any limit to the amount of times and ways you can turn to the one true Guide in your life, you will find your true compass that will always lead you home.
